Wiener Festwochen optimizing the UX
For the 2023 Festival Weeks season, we redesigned almost all areas of the frontend and made it more user-friendly. The task was to better anchor the services of the festival weeks in the screen design and to integrate them into the website with small elements. Furthermore, the clarity and user guidance was improved. The website of the festival goes through several phases and is a comprehensive platform with many functions, especially during its runtime.
Full love and details
Our task was the conceptual and creative development of the website of the Wiener Festwochen as well as the frontend implementation. Our partners from kju support the Festwochen in the backend programming which was implemented in this project with the system Craft CMS. Rosebud is responsible for the 2023 campaign and the graphic design.
What we did
- Adjustment of the grid for better clarity
- Structuring of the pages
- Extension of functionality by new modules
- Simplified presentation of the calendar
- Development of the festival compass
- Improvement of the clarity of the production detail pages

Program overview
The program of the Wiener Festwochen can be explored in 3 views. The production view offers a striking presentation of the productions including a detailed filtering option. The calendar view offers a representation which is oriented to the period and the current day. The period can be narrowed down by means of a period filtering. If a day has already passed in the program, the calendar automatically scrolls to the current day. The third view, the compass, is a more playful approach.

Festwochen Compass
The Festival Compass compares the visitor’s input with the listed productions according to various categories and interests. This determines a match to see which festival content best fits the visitor’s profile.

Service details
To improve the service experience on the website, not only the new compass was developed, but also other elements that make it easier to find and use service offers. Furthermore, the production teaser elements, for example, have been optimized to show all relevant information in this compact view or the production details area to provide a nice information view for the above the fold area.
